Slinkys, Sand and Shakespeare

If someone in your house is struggling to read, how can slinkys help? How do we go from the baby steps of learning to read to making it a wonderful part of our family culture? Be encouraged to make reading a joyful part of everyday life. First, we will address methods of teaching reading, the theoretical and the practical, relying on input from many different families using many different methods, including helpful exercises. Four Styles Panel

Each homeschool is free to make a choice- what method will we use? Many people, books, and publishers vie for your attention, and it’s hard to know what’s the best choice for your family. See how each of the different approaches handles preschool, planning, family scheduling, teaching different ages together, learning struggles and high school. How and when did they choose not to take the traditional approach? How would your family culture change if you were to adopt one of these methods? Represented are: classical, Charlotte Mason, unit studies and unschooling.

Sensitive Subjects Pt. 2

This discussion will help parents initiate and continue to lead their children in a true understanding of sexuality and intimacy. A follow-up to last year’s panel, this year’s session will go deeper as we all learn how to keep the conversation going with our children about topics that don’t often come up at the family dinner table. Join us as we touch on how lusts come about in our children and how to respond to them, how our relationship with our spouse can be a template for how we teach our children, and how do we sensitively teach about homosexuality? This discussion is intended for parents/adults who are interested in thinking more about these topics, but given its sensitive nature, will remain closed to children/teens.
